The Glamping Experience in Florida

Have you ever been Glamping? Do you even know what it is? The word actually is a contraction of “glamour” and “camping.” It describes a style of outdoor accommodations with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with “traditional” camping as we know it.
It’s a lot more than hiking to a destination, pitching a tent and starting an open fire to cook dinner
Those in the know say glamping is a way for people “to experience stunning outdoor areas without having to forgo their creature comforts.” The glamping “movement” is growing – so it comes as no surprise there actually are lots of places in the Sunshine State that such glamorous camping facilities are available.
Some are so comfortable and decked out, they might even win over those who’s idea of “roughing it” is a hotel without room service.
In fact, Glamping today encompasses many different ways to enjoy the great outdoors including (but not limited to) tents, villas, cabins, lodges, teepees and tree houses,
The concept of luxurious outdoor living is not new. In fact,  one such example was noted in the 16th century, when the Scottish Earl of Atholl hosted a lavish experience in the Highlands for the visiting King James V and his mother. The Duke pitched a series of exquisite tents and filled them with all the provisions of his own home palace.
But that’s only one example. There are hundreds more, with nobility and the wealthy bringing all the modern conveniences of their particular age along with them, as they found the most beautiful places on earth to enjoy.
The word Glamping – as an expression for the practice – apparently first appeared in the United Kingdom in 2005 and was added to the Oxford English Dictionary the in 2016
Glamping indeed is a global phenomenon- featuring unique and exotic locals ranging from mountaintops to islands and from deserts to rainforests, However, our focus is Florida and our friends at Trips to Discover have picked a handful of examples of Glamping across the Sunshine State – you can read Charity De Sousa’s article here
